Competent and experienced, but communication could improve

I hired Timothy Briggs of Miller Stratvert to handle a complex workers' compensation defense matter for my small construction company after an employee injury dispute. With his 41 years of practice and specific recognition in Workers' Compensation Law for employers, I was confident in his technical expertise, and that proved true. His deep knowledge of New Mexico law, honed since his graduation from Texas Tech in '84, was evident in his strategy and filings. The outcome of our case was ultimately favorable, which is the most important thing. However, my experience was mixed on the service side. While Mr. Briggs himself was sharp in our meetings, I often found communication through his office to be slower than I'd prefer, with responses to non-urgent emails taking several days. At times, I felt I had to initiate contact to get updates on procedural steps. For the premium rates, I expected a more proactive flow of information. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney, as his 'Lawyer of the Year' recognitions suggest, and I would not hesitate to recommend him for his legal acumen. Yet, for a client managing a business, the overall experience felt more transactional than collaborative, leaving me with a sense that while the legal work was solid, the client service was merely adequate.
