Competent construction law advice, but communication could improve

I engaged Robert Campbell of Cox, Castle & Nicholson to advise on a significant contract dispute with a subcontractor on a commercial development project in Los Angeles. His deep knowledge of construction law was evident from the start. He is clearly an expert in this niche, and his recognition by Best Lawyers in both Construction Law and Litigation - Construction is well-deserved. His analysis of the contract clauses and the potential litigation pathways was thorough and gave us a solid strategic footing. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal work itself was sound, the practicalities of working with his office were less smooth. Response times to emails were sometimes slower than I would have preferred, especially during non-critical phases, which created some anxiety. There were also moments where the explanations of next steps or fee structures felt slightly rushed, leaving me to seek clarification later. For a straightforward construction contract review or a clear-cut dispute, his expertise is undeniable. For matters requiring more frequent hand-holding or ultra-responsive communication, you might need to set very clear expectations upfront. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney in his field, but the client service experience felt just adequate.
