I engaged Rick Kirkbride and his team at Paul Hastings to assist with the acquisition of a boutique hotel in the Los Angeles area. With his 40+ years of experience and his specific recognition in Leisure and Hospitality Law, his deep expertise in the sector was immediately apparent. He navigated the complex real estate and operational licensing aspects with clear competence. However, for a client of my size, the experience felt somewhat institutional. While the final work product was solid, there were periods of delayed responsiveness, with updates often coming from junior associates rather than directly from Mr. Kirkbride himself. For the premium rate, I expected more consistent, senior-level communication. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney, as his 'Lawyer of the Year' recognition suggests, but the client service experience felt more transactional than partnership-oriented.
