Competent on IP litigation, but communication could improve

I engaged Rachel Goldberg at Davis Wright Tremaine to handle a trademark infringement dispute for my small software company in San Diego. Her background in Intellectual Property Law and her recognition by Best Lawyers were primary factors in my selection. When it came to the substantive legal work, Rachel demonstrated clear competence. Her analysis of the opposing party's claims was sharp, and she drafted a compelling cease-and-desist response that leveraged her commercial litigation experience. The matter was resolved favorably without needing to escalate to full litigation. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While Rachel is undoubtedly knowledgeable, there were several instances where responses to my emails took longer than I expected, sometimes stretching to three or four business days. This left me feeling somewhat in the dark during critical junctures. Additionally, while she explained the legal strategy, I sometimes felt the practical business implications of certain steps could have been communicated more clearly. For a straightforward IP issue, she is a capable attorney who gets results, but managing client expectations and proactive communication seem to be areas still developing in her practice. I would describe her work as solidly adequate, hence the three-star rating.
