A competent veteran attorney, but communication could improve

I engaged Paul Eckstein and his team at Perkins Coie to handle a complex commercial dispute that had significant financial implications for my business. There is no question about his deep expertise; his sixty years of experience, particularly in high-stakes litigation as evidenced by his 'Bet-the-Company' recognitions, were a primary reason for our selection. His strategic thinking during the settlement negotiations was sharp, drawing clearly from his vast background in constitutional and commercial law. However, for a matter that felt all-consuming to us, there were periods where communication from his office was slower than expected. Updates sometimes felt templated, and reaching him directly for a quick clarification often involved navigating through associates and waiting for callbacks. While the legal outcome was ultimately satisfactory, the process at times felt somewhat distant. You are undoubtedly getting a highly skilled attorney with a formidable reputation, but you should be prepared for a more institutional, rather than highly personal, client experience.
