Nigel McKechnie is a fully bilingual labour and employment lawyer practising out of Hicks Morley’s Ottawa office. He is experienced in providing advice and litigating matters before the courts and administrative tribunals.Nigel is a responsive and strong advocate for clients. He has appeared as lead counsel before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board, the Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court and, most recently, the Court of Appeal for Ontario.Nigel attempts to settle disputes whenever possible but prides himself on being ready to go to court or arbitration when the situation warrants. As lead lawyer and co-counsel on a variety of complex civil matters, Nigel conducts examinations for discovery, cross-examinations, contested motions, mediations, and pre-trials. He regularly advises provincially and federally regulated employers and he has considerable experience in labour arbitrations, collective bargaining, and judicial review proceedings.Prior to joining Hicks Morley, Nigel practised labour and employment law at a full-service firm as well as a management-side labour and employment firm. Additionally, he has previously represented the employee/union side, which gives him a unique perspective when advising employers and resolving workplace disputes.
