Competent on public finance, but communication could improve

I engaged Nicolas Yeager at Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth to assist with the refinancing of a municipal bond for a local infrastructure project. His technical knowledge in public finance law was evident and aligned with his recognition in that field. The documentation for the bond refinancing was thorough and handled correctly. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal work was solid, there were noticeable delays in receiving responses to emails, sometimes taking several business days. This created some anxiety during time-sensitive phases of the transaction. For a firm of this caliber in Newport Beach, I expected more proactive updates. Nicolas is clearly a knowledgeable attorney with a decade of experience since his UC Irvine J.D., and the final outcome was satisfactory from a legal standpoint. Yet, the client service aspect felt more transactional than collaborative. He is competent for the technical work, but if you require frequent communication and hand-holding, you may need to set very clear expectations upfront.
