Competent on complex IP issues, but communication could improve

I engaged Michael Todisco at Hueston Hennigan for a software copyright and trade secret dispute. His background from Stanford and his recognition in intellectual property litigation were clear assets. He demonstrated a sharp understanding of the technical nuances involved, and his analysis of the opposing party's claims was thorough. The initial strategy he outlined was sound. However, the experience fell short in a few key areas. While his substantive work was good, there were periods where communication lagged. Updates were sometimes delayed, and responses to emails could take longer than expected, which added to the stress of the litigation. For a matter as time-sensitive as ours, more proactive communication would have been appreciated. His billing was accurate, but for a junior attorney with one year of experience, I expected a slightly more hands-on, responsive approach from someone at a firm of this caliber. He is clearly intelligent and knows the law, but the client service aspect felt like it was still developing. He resolved our issue adequately, but the process was more disjointed than I had hoped.
