Competent on employment issues, but communication could improve

I hired Melissa Scott at Nelson Mullins to assist with a severance negotiation after a sudden layoff from my previous employer in Jacksonville. Her background in both employee and management-side labor and employment law was evident; she understood the nuances of my position and the company's likely perspective. Her recognition by Best Lawyers in this specific field gave me confidence in her technical knowledge, which proved solid. The final agreement we secured was fair and addressed my key concerns regarding non-compete clauses and payout structure. However, my experience was mixed on the service side. Response times to emails were sometimes slower than I'd hoped, often taking several business days, which added to my anxiety during the process. While she was always professional in our meetings, I occasionally felt I had to proactively seek updates rather than receiving them automatically. For straightforward employment matters, her four years of experience and firm resources are adequate. You'll get capable legal work, but manage your expectations regarding client communication and be prepared to follow up.
