I engaged Justin Turc at Ogletree Deakins to advise on a sensitive termination involving a long-term employee with performance and potential disability accommodation issues. Justin's background in labour and employment law was evident; his analysis of the risks associated with the termination package and the duty to accommodate was thorough and precise. He is clearly knowledgeable, and his firm's recognition in this field is well-deserved. The strategy he outlined was sound and ultimately protected our company from a potential lawsuit. However, the experience was not seamless. There were periods where responses to follow-up emails took longer than expected, which added stress during a time-sensitive process. While his final work product was excellent, the journey there felt somewhat transactional at times, with less proactive communication than I had hoped for from a partner. For straightforward matters, his expertise is solid, but for clients who prioritize frequent touchpoints, setting clear expectations on communication timelines at the outset would be beneficial.
