A solid, experienced attorney for complex IP matters

I engaged James Batchelder at Ropes & Gray to assist with a patent infringement matter for my tech startup. His deep expertise in intellectual property litigation, particularly patents, was immediately apparent. With nearly four decades of experience and recognition from Best Lawyers in those specific fields, he clearly knows the landscape. The legal strategy he developed was sound and reflected his background from a top firm in Palo Alto. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While his junior associates were responsive, direct communication with Mr. Batchelder himself was sometimes delayed, requiring follow-up. For the premium rate, I expected more proactive updates and a slightly more accessible partnership. The work product was technically excellent and we achieved a satisfactory settlement, but the process lacked the personal touch and seamless client management I anticipated. He is undoubtedly a competent and knowledgeable attorney for high-stakes IP work, but ensure your expectations on client service are aligned from the outset.
