Adequate representation for a complex contract dispute

I engaged David C. Marcus and his team at WilmerHale in San Francisco to handle a significant breach of contract and fiduciary duty case for my mid-sized technology firm. There is no question about David's deep expertise in commercial litigation, which is clearly reflected in his long-standing recognition by Best Lawyers. His Yale Law background and decades of experience since 1985 were evident in the strategic legal arguments he developed. The initial case assessment was thorough, and the pleadings he drafted were exceptionally sharp. However, my experience was mixed on the operational side. While David himself was brilliant in depositions and court appearances, day-to-day communication was often handled by junior associates, and there were sometimes delays in receiving updates. For a firm of this caliber, I expected more proactive communication regarding case developments and billing. The legal outcome was ultimately favorable, aligning with the competence you'd expect from a recognized practitioner. Yet, the process felt somewhat impersonal at times, and managing expectations around responsiveness and direct partner involvement could be improved. He is undoubtedly a skilled litigator, but the client service experience did not fully match the premium stature of the firm.
