Cortney Kitchen

While Cortney's practice focuses on land use, natural resource, and environmental law, she also maintains an active real estate and contract law practice. Cortney works with municipalities, Native corporations, businesses, and individuals to address easements, conditional uses, rights-of-way, variances, annexations, and other municipal matters. She advises clients on Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation contaminated sites, as well as commercial real property transactions, including leases, purchases, and sales. Cortney has represented clients in administrative and court proceedings and before state and federal agencies. Cortney also assists clients with contract negotiations, crafting elegant and efficient solutions tailored to each client's specification. Cortney is a founder and former director of Denali Rescue Volunteers, an Alaska non-profit dedicated to supporting the volunteers participating in rescue, medical, and clean-up efforts on Denali each climbing season.Before starting Kitchen Legal in 2015, Cortney worked for an Anchorage law firm; clerked for the Alaska Supreme Court in Fairbanks; and ran her first marathon, the Equinox Marathon. In 2016 she climbed The Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite. When not working, she likes to spend time outside with her husband, two young kids, and friends.
