Competent on the deal, but communication could improve

Christian Salaman handled the acquisition of a small tech startup I co-founded, and his technical knowledge was evident. Given his recognition in Mergers and Acquisitions Law by Best Lawyers, I had high expectations for strategic guidance. He was certainly proficient in navigating the complexities of the transaction, and his background from a firm like Pillsbury showed in the thoroughness of the due diligence and contract structuring. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While he was always accurate, proactive communication was inconsistent. There were periods where we waited several days for updates on counterparty responses, which created anxiety during a sensitive negotiation. His advice, when we had it, was sound and leveraged his corporate law expertise, but I sometimes felt like just another file in a busy practice. For a straightforward deal, his competence is adequate, but if you require a partner who manages expectations and maintains a steady flow of information, you may need to be very direct in setting those parameters from the outset.
