Competent on the case, but communication could improve

I retained Andrew Levine to handle a complex software copyright and trade secret dispute for my tech startup in San Jose. His background from BraunHagey & Borden and his recognition in intellectual property litigation were the primary reasons for my choice. Andrew demonstrated clear expertise in the nuances of IP law during the case; his legal strategy was sound, and his understanding of the technical subject matter was evident. The matter was resolved with a favorable settlement, which I appreciate. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal work was competent, I often found communication to be lacking. Responses to emails were sometimes delayed by several days, and there were periods where I felt out of the loop on procedural developments. For a bet-the-company type of litigation, I expected a higher level of proactive updates and accessibility. Andrew is undoubtedly a knowledgeable attorney, particularly for commercial IP disputes in California, but the client service aspect felt just adequate. He got the job done, but the process could have been smoother with better management of expectations and timelines.
