Competent corporate counsel, but communication could improve

I engaged Bill Weigand at Davis Wright Tremaine to handle a breach of contract dispute for my small technology firm. His 17 years of experience in commercial litigation were evident from the start; he quickly grasped the technical nuances of our software licensing agreement and provided a solid strategic assessment. His recognition in corporate law and commercial litigation is well-deserved, as his knowledge of Washington state law and procedural rules was comprehensive. The case was resolved with a favorable settlement, which was our primary goal. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While Bill himself was sharp, there were often significant delays in receiving responses to emails, sometimes stretching to several business days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. Updates felt reactive rather than proactive. For straightforward corporate legal matters, his expertise from UC Hastings and his long tenure in Seattle make him a capable choice. Yet, for clients who prioritize consistent, clear communication and a more hands-on advisory style throughout the process, expectations may need to be managed. The legal work was sound, but the client service experience felt merely adequate.
