Bio

Whit Johnson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in a doctor’s household. Mr. Johnson has been licensed to practice in the State of Mississippi since 1979. He specializes in litigation, with the focus of his practice for the past 25 years being the defense of physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers from claims of medical negligence. Mr. Johnson is a frequent speaker to medical organizations, including the Mississippi State Medical Association, the Mississippi Medical and Surgical Association, Medical Assurance Company of Mississippi, and various departments and groups within the University of Mississippi Medical Center system. He has also been published in the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association on both risk management and litigation issues. Mr. Johnson’s wife, George, is a pre-school teacher, and they are the proud parents of three children, two of whom are in college. They have lived in Jackson since Mr. Johnson’s graduation from law school in 1979 and are actively involved as parishioners at St. Richard’s Catholic Church.

Our family retained Mr. Johnson after a complex and stressful situation involving a disputed property line and a neighbor's encroachment. With 46 years of practice in Mississippi, his deep understanding of state statutes and local court procedures was immediately evident. His background, having grown up in Clarksdale and practicing in Jackson his entire career, gives him an intuitive sense of how to navigate matters here. While his recent Lawyer of the Year recognitions are in medical malpractice, his general practice expertise proved invaluable for our real estate issue—he approached it with the same meticulous preparation one would expect from an award-winning litigator. He is exceptionally sharp and his counsel was always sound. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is that communication sometimes lagged a day or two during non-critical phases, which added a bit of anxiety. That said, when it mattered, he was fully present and effective. We felt represented by a true authority.
