Competent and experienced, but communication could improve

I hired Vincent Louwagie to represent me in a complex dispute involving a significant investment in a private equity fund that went sideways. Given his 37 years of experience and his recognition in securities law, including the 2022 Lawyer of the Year award, I felt confident in his technical ability. That confidence was largely justified. His grasp of the intricate capital markets regulations was evident, and his strategic approach during the discovery phase was solid. He clearly knows the courtroom and the relevant statutes inside out. However, the overall experience was mixed. While the legal work was competent, communication was sometimes a challenge. There were periods where I felt out of the loop, waiting for updates that took longer than expected. Responses to emails could be delayed, and explanations, while accurate, occasionally felt rushed. For the premium rate, I expected a more proactive and consistent client liaison. The outcome of my matter was acceptable, though not the complete victory I had hoped for. In summary, Mr. Louwagie is a formidable and knowledgeable attorney, as his Super Lawyers recognition attests, but the client service aspect of his practice felt merely adequate. He is certainly capable, but ensure you are prepared to be persistent in seeking updates and managing your own expectations regarding the pace of communication.
