Competent on patent filing, but communication could improve

I engaged Toby Ligon at Seed IP Law Group to assist with a utility patent application for a mechanical component my small engineering firm developed. His background in patent law, including the recognition from Best Lawyers, was evident in the thoroughness of the initial application draft. The technical and legal aspects of the claims were handled competently, and he clearly understood the nuances required by the USPTO. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While the final work product was solid, there were periods of several days where I received no response to status update emails, which created some anxiety during the process. The billing was as expected for a Seattle firm, but the overall pace felt slower than anticipated. For straightforward patent prosecution where you are not in a rush, Mr. Ligon’s expertise is reliable. I would just advise future clients to set very clear expectations upfront regarding communication timelines. He knows his stuff, but the client service aspect felt just adequate.
