Competent on IP matters, but communication could improve

I engaged Timothy Klima of Shuttleworth & Ingersoll for a trademark dispute involving a former business partner. His recognition in Litigation - Intellectual Property by Best Lawyers was a primary factor in my selection, and that expertise was evident in his handling of the case's substantive legal strategy. He demonstrated a clear understanding of the nuances involved, and his analysis of our position was thorough. The matter was resolved with a satisfactory settlement. However, my experience was mixed on the operational side. While Mr. Klima was always prepared for our scheduled meetings, proactive communication between those meetings was inconsistent. There were several instances where I had to follow up multiple times for updates on filing deadlines or to get simple questions answered, which created some unnecessary anxiety. For straightforward legal work in his recognized field, he is certainly capable. My expectations for a more responsive client experience, perhaps informed by his recognition, were not fully met. For someone in Cedar Rapids needing IP counsel, he is a viable option, but be prepared to manage the communication flow yourself.
