I engaged Thomas Van Dusen of Bodman PLC to handle a contentious commercial dispute involving a former business partner. His deep experience, particularly his focus on litigation and alternative dispute resolution, was evident. With over 20 years in practice and his multiple 'Lawyer of the Year' recognitions in Troy for trusts and estates litigation, I felt confident in his strategic legal mind. The case involved intricate contract breaches and insurance coverage questions, areas squarely within his stated expertise. Ultimately, we reached a settlement through mediation, which was a satisfactory outcome. However, my rating reflects some practical frustrations. While his legal work was solid, communication was sometimes slower than I preferred, with responses taking several days during critical phases. At times, I felt I had to proactively follow up for updates. The billing was as expected for a firm of Bodman's stature, but the process felt somewhat impersonal. For highly complex matters, his expertise is undeniable, but client management and expectation setting could be more consistent.
