A competent attorney with decades of experience

My family hired Mr. Behm after a serious car accident left my father with significant injuries. Given his long-standing reputation and the recent Lawyer of the Year recognitions in Grand Rapids for personal injury, we felt confident in his expertise. With 39 years of practice, his deep knowledge of Michigan law and the litigation process was evident. He secured a settlement that covered the major medical expenses, which we appreciated. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. Communication was sometimes a challenge; updates were infrequent and we often had to follow up ourselves to get answers. There were also considerable wait times for returned calls. While the financial outcome was adequate, the process felt more impersonal than we expected from a firm of this caliber. Mr. Behm is undoubtedly a skilled litigator, as his awards in medical malpractice and bet-the-company litigation suggest, but managing client expectations and maintaining consistent contact could be improved. For a straightforward case where you need a seasoned legal mind, he is capable, but be prepared to advocate for your own need for information throughout.
