Competent on complex M&A, but communication could improve

We engaged Tom McAleavey at Holland & Knight for guidance on a private equity transaction involving our Florida-based tech company. His deep experience in securities law and corporate governance, evidenced by his multiple 'Lawyer of the Year' recognitions, was immediately apparent. He navigated the complexities of the deal structure and the SEC regulations with clear expertise. However, our experience was mixed. While the legal work was solid, we often experienced significant delays in receiving responses to emails, which created some anxiety during tight negotiation periods. His advice, when we had it, was always sound and rooted in his 30+ years of practice, particularly from his securities law focus. For straightforward, high-stakes corporate matters, he knows his field, but you need to be prepared to manage expectations around accessibility and follow-up.
