Competent real estate attorney, but communication could improve

I hired Thomas De Bow at Holland & Knight to assist with the acquisition of a mixed-use property in Brooklyn. His credentials are solid—a Boston College Law grad with recognition in real estate law—and his technical knowledge of the contract and due diligence process was evident. He clearly understands the New York market. However, my experience was mixed. While the legal work was thorough, there were periods of several days where I received no updates, requiring me to follow up. Responses, when they came, were sometimes brief. For straightforward matters, his expertise is reliable, but if you prefer a more proactive communication style, you may need to set clear expectations upfront. He completed the transaction competently, but the process felt more transactional than collaborative.
