Competent estate planning, but communication could improve

My family engaged Susan Spahn at Fitzgerald, Schorr to assist with a complex estate plan involving a family business and a special needs trust for my sibling. With her 36 years of experience and recognition in Trusts and Estates by Best Lawyers, we felt confident in her technical expertise. The final documents she drafted were thorough and reflected a deep understanding of Nebraska law. However, the process felt somewhat transactional. While she was always professional, communication was not as proactive as I had hoped. There were periods of several weeks where we heard nothing, and responses to emails sometimes took longer than expected. Her guidance on the litigation risks surrounding the trust provisions was clear, but I sometimes felt I had to push for updates. For straightforward legal work, she is undoubtedly knowledgeable and gets the job done. For clients who prioritize constant hand-holding and rapid communication, expectations might need to be managed. The firm's reputation is solid, and the work product was sound, but the client experience was merely adequate.
