A competent attorney, but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Steve Ellis at Proskauer Rose to assist with the restructuring of a mid-sized commercial loan facility for my company. His deep knowledge of banking and finance law was evident from the start. He is clearly an expert in his field, and his recognition in structured finance is well-deserved. The legal strategy he drafted was solid and addressed the complex securitization aspects of our collateral. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While the final work product was thorough, there were periods where communication lagged. Responses to emails sometimes took several days, and it was occasionally difficult to get a clear timeline for deliverables. For a firm of Proskauer's stature and with Steve's twelve years of experience, I expected a more proactive and consistently responsive client service approach. He successfully navigated the corporate legal hurdles, but the process felt more transactional than collaborative. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney who gets the job done, but the client management side could be improved to match his legal acumen.
