Competent real estate counsel, but communication could improve

I engaged Stephen Flug at Gibson Dunn for assistance with a commercial lease negotiation for my small business in Manhattan. His knowledge of New York real estate law was evident, and he correctly identified several key issues in the landlord's initial draft. It's clear why he has been recognized in this practice area. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While the final documents were solid, there were periods where responses to my emails took several days, and I sometimes had to follow up for updates. For straightforward matters, he is a capable attorney who gets the job done, but I expected a more proactive communication style from a firm of this caliber. He handled the core legal work competently, but the client service aspect felt just adequate.
