Competent on banking documents, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged Stephen 'Win' Porter at Moore & Van Allen to assist with a commercial loan refinancing for my small business. His background in Banking and Finance Law was evident; he was clearly knowledgeable about the regulatory landscape in North Carolina and efficiently handled the documentation. His recognition in this specific field gave me confidence initially. The work product on the loan agreement itself was solid and met the basic requirements. However, the experience fell short in a few key areas. Communication was sometimes slow, with responses taking several days during critical junctures, which added to my stress. While he explained the legal terms, I sometimes felt the strategic 'why' behind certain clauses wasn't fully explored unless I asked very direct questions. For a straightforward transaction, his one year of focused practice in this area is sufficient, but I expected a more proactive partnership from a firm of this caliber. He is competent for the technical aspects, but managing client expectations and maintaining consistent dialogue could be improved.
