Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I engaged Stephen Porterfield of Dentons Sirote to handle a complex commercial litigation matter for my small business in Boston, Alabama. There is no question about his legal acumen; his 15 years of experience and his recognition in areas like commercial litigation are evident. He understood the nuances of our case immediately and his strategic advice during the settlement negotiations was solid and ultimately helped us reach an acceptable resolution. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal outcome was satisfactory, the process felt somewhat impersonal. Response times to emails were often slower than I would have liked, sometimes taking several business days, which created anxiety during critical phases. I also found that some of the billing entries were vague, making it difficult to fully understand what specific work was being done between our major milestones. For straightforward legal matters where you need a seasoned attorney, Mr. Porterfield is certainly capable. Just be prepared to manage your own expectations regarding client communication and administrative follow-through. He knows the law very well, but the client service aspect felt just adequate.
