Competent on corporate governance, but communication could improve

I engaged Serge LeBel at BCF for guidance on a shareholder dispute that was escalating within our Milwaukee-based family business. His recognition in Corporate Governance Practice was a primary factor in our selection, and that expertise was evident. He provided a solid, technically sound analysis of our bylaws and fiduciary duties, which helped us understand our legal standing. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While his knowledge of commercial litigation frameworks was clear, there were noticeable delays in receiving responses to emails, sometimes stretching several business days, which added to our stress during a tense period. Our initial consultation, while informative, felt a bit rushed, and we occasionally had to follow up to get clarity on next steps. For straightforward corporate governance matters, his recognized background is an asset, and he certainly knows the law. Yet, for clients who value consistent, proactive communication and a more hands-on advisory approach throughout a process, there is room for improvement. He resolved our immediate issue adequately, but the overall client service experience was just satisfactory.
