Competent but communication could be more consistent

I hired Sean Schmergel of Schmergel & Mersberger PLC to assist with a post-divorce child custody modification. As a graduate of George Mason University and someone recognized in family law, his foundational knowledge of Virginia statutes was evident. He was able to efficiently draft the necessary motions and navigate the local court procedures. The outcome for my case was ultimately satisfactory. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. At times, there were noticeable delays in email responses, which added to my stress during an already difficult process. While his one year of focused family law experience provided competent guidance, I sometimes felt I had to follow up to get updates that should have been proactive. For straightforward legal matters, he gets the job done, but the client service aspect and communication flow could be more polished to match the legal expertise.
