Competent zoning attorney, but communication could improve

I hired Sean Callan of Manley Burke to assist with a complex zoning variance for a small commercial property I was developing in Cincinnati. With his three decades of experience and his recognition in Land Use and Zoning Law, I was confident in his technical expertise, and that proved true. He navigated the city's planning commission procedures with clear competence, and we ultimately achieved the necessary approvals. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While his knowledge of real estate law was evident, there were periods where communication lagged—emails sometimes took several days for a brief reply, and it was occasionally difficult to get a clear timeline for next steps. For straightforward legal matters, his deep background from the University of Cincinnati and his long tenure are undeniable assets. For clients who prefer a more hands-on, communicative approach, you may need to set very clear expectations upfront. He is undoubtedly skilled, but the service aspect felt just adequate for the premium.
