Competent on complex public finance, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged Sam Keyes at Butler Snow to assist our small municipality with a bond issuance for a new public works facility. His deep expertise in public finance law and municipal bonds was immediately apparent. With over four decades of experience, particularly in Mississippi, his knowledge of the legal and procedural landscape is undeniable, and his recognition in areas like government finance is well-earned. The work product was solid, and he successfully navigated the complexities of the transaction. However, the experience was mixed. At times, communication lagged, with responses taking longer than expected, which created some anxiety given our tight timeline. While his advice was always sound when we had his attention, I sometimes felt like a smaller client in a large firm. For straightforward, high-stakes public finance matters, his competence is not in question, but managing client expectations and accessibility could be improved.
