Competent handling of a contract dispute, but communication was inconsistent

I engaged Samuel Massicotte of Stein Monast to assist with a commercial contract dispute involving a local supplier. His background in Corporate and Commercial Litigation was evident from our initial consultation; he clearly understood the legal nuances of our situation. His recognition in legal directories for Construction Law also gave me confidence, as our dispute had elements related to service delivery standards. Samuel was ultimately successful in negotiating a settlement that avoided court, which was our primary goal. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. There were periods of several days where I received no updates, despite sending follow-up emails. While his legal analysis was sound, managing expectations around timelines and response rates could be improved. For a straightforward matter, his one year at the firm and his decades of experience since graduating in '97 provided a solid foundation, but the administrative and client communication aspects felt like they were still being refined. He is a capable lawyer who achieved the desired result, but the process required more proactive follow-up on my part than I anticipated.
