Competent on the transaction, but communication was inconsistent

I hired Ryan Olson at Bodman PLC to assist with the acquisition of a small manufacturing supplier for my business in the Detroit area. Given his recognition in Mergers and Acquisitions Law by Best Lawyers, I felt confident in his technical ability. Ryan's dual background from Michigan State, holding both a J.D. and an M.B.A., was evident in his grasp of the commercial realities of the deal. The diligence and final agreements were thorough, and the transaction closed successfully. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While Ryan was clearly knowledgeable, there were periods where communication lagged. Responses to emails sometimes took several days, and I didn't always feel proactively updated on minor hurdles. For a straightforward M&A matter, his three years of focused experience in this area at the Troy office were sufficient, but the client service aspect felt more like a checklist than a partnership. He is a capable attorney who delivered on the core legal work, but managing client expectations and maintaining consistent dialogue could be improved. The result was good, but the process required more follow-up from my end than I anticipated.
