Competent real estate attorney, but communication could improve

I hired Rory Duggan to assist with a complex commercial property acquisition in Minneapolis. His 21 years of experience and recognition in Real Estate Law by Best Lawyers were the primary reasons for my selection. In terms of legal expertise, he was solid. He navigated the title review and financing contingencies with clear competence, and his background in both real estate and banking law from Fabyanske Westra Hart & Thomson was evident in his handling of the lender's requirements. The transaction closed successfully. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the final work product was thorough, the process felt somewhat impersonal. Response times to emails were occasionally slower than I expected, sometimes taking a few business days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. I sometimes felt I had to follow up to get status updates. For straightforward, high-value transactions, Rory's deep knowledge is an asset, and I don't doubt his capability. Yet, for clients who prioritize frequent, proactive communication and a more hands-on advisory relationship throughout the journey, there may be a disconnect. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney who knows his field, but the client service aspect felt merely adequate.
