Competent on venture capital structure, but communication was inconsistent

I hired Rogan Giles of Dwyer Murphy Calvert LLP to assist with the formation and initial funding round for my tech startup in Austin. His background in venture capital law, including the recognition from Best Lawyers, was a primary factor in our selection. Rogan demonstrated clear expertise when drafting the complex operating agreement and navigating the SAFE note terms for our angel investors. His analysis of the cap table and founder equity splits was thorough and gave us confidence in the legal foundation of our company. However, the experience was mixed. While the substantive work was solid, communication often felt like a bottleneck. Responses to emails, even on time-sensitive matters, could take several days, and it was sometimes difficult to get a clear timeline for deliverables. For a fast-moving startup environment, this created unnecessary stress. Furthermore, while the final documents were impeccable, the process felt less collaborative than I had hoped; explanations were sometimes cursory unless I pressed for more detail. In the end, the legal work product was professionally executed and aligned with his recognized venture capital expertise. I believe Rogan is a knowledgeable attorney in this niche, but the overall client service experience and proactive communication could be improved to match the quality of the legal analysis.
