I engaged Robert Stacy from Daniel Coker Horton & Bell to represent my small hotel in Oxford after a guest filed a premises liability claim. With his 37 years of experience and recognition in defense-side personal injury litigation, I was confident in his legal acumen. This confidence was generally well-placed; his deep knowledge of hospitality law and trial strategy was evident during our consultations. He successfully negotiated a settlement that avoided a courtroom trial, which was the primary goal. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. Communication was functional but not proactive—I often had to follow up for updates, and responses could take several days. While his legal work on the file itself was competent and his background in professional liability was reassuring, managing expectations and client rapport seemed secondary. For a straightforward defense matter where expertise is paramount, he gets the job done. For clients who prioritize frequent touchpoints and a more collaborative feel throughout the process, there may be a disconnect. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney in the Oxford area, but the overall service experience was just satisfactory.
