Competent on employment law, but communication could improve

I hired Richard Landau at Jackson Lewis to advise my small business on a wrongful termination claim from a former employee. His background in employment law for management was clear, and his recognition in that field gave me confidence. He was knowledgeable about the relevant New York statutes and provided a solid, if somewhat conservative, legal strategy that ultimately helped us reach a settlement. However, the experience was mixed. While his analysis was sound, there were often delays in returning emails or calls, sometimes taking several business days for a response, which added to my stress during the process. His explanations, while thorough, could be quite technical, and I sometimes felt I had to push for simpler clarifications on next steps. For straightforward employment matters, he knows his stuff, but be prepared to manage your expectations regarding responsiveness and to ask follow-up questions to ensure you’re fully aligned.
