Competent and experienced, but communication could improve
I hired Ms. Laffitte for a complex insurance dispute after a significant property loss. Her 22 years of experience and recognition in insurance law were immediately apparent; she knew the relevant statutes and opposing counsel's tactics inside and out. Her analysis of our policy's fine print was thorough, and her firm, Robinson Gray Stepp & Laffitte, has a solid reputation. Ultimately, we reached a settlement that was fair, if not as robust as I had initially hoped. However, the process felt somewhat impersonal. While her legal expertise is undeniable, communication was inconsistent. There were periods of several days where I received no updates, and responses to emails could be delayed. At times, I felt I had to follow up to get clarity on next steps. For straightforward legal matters, her deep knowledge of South Carolina law, from her USC School of Law background, is a major asset. But if you value frequent, proactive communication, you may need to set very clear expectations from the outset. She is a capable attorney who gets results, but the client experience felt merely adequate.
