Knowledgeable but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Rahat Tariq at Goodwin for assistance with structuring an executive compensation package for a key hire at our small firm. Given his recognition in Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, I was confident in his technical expertise, and that aspect was solid. He clearly understood the nuances of the non-qualified deferred compensation plan we were considering. However, the experience was a bit uneven. While his analysis of the tax implications was thorough, there were times when responses to my emails took longer than expected, leaving me to follow up. The advice was always correct when it came, but the process felt less streamlined than I had hoped. For straightforward ERISA or benefits matters, his knowledge from Washington, D.C. is evident and reliable. My expectations for proactive communication and timeline management, however, were only partially met. He is competent and clearly recognized in his field, but the client service aspect felt just adequate for the level of firm.
