Competent on immigration case, but communication was inconsistent

I hired Mr. Shepherd to assist with an H-1B visa transfer for a key employee at my tech startup. His background in immigration law, including the recognition from Best Lawyers, was a primary factor in our selection. He demonstrated a solid understanding of the complex regulations, and the petition was ultimately approved. However, the experience was mixed. While his legal analysis was sound, there were noticeable gaps in communication. Responses to emails often took several days, and updates were not proactively provided, which created anxiety during an already stressful process. For a straightforward case, his expertise from Ogletree Deakins was evident in the quality of the filing. Yet, managing client expectations and maintaining a consistent dialogue seemed to be an area for improvement. He is clearly knowledgeable, especially given his focus in this practice area, but the overall service felt more transactional than collaborative. I would describe the outcome as successful but the journey to get there as merely adequate.
