A competent and experienced attorney, but communication was a challenge

I engaged Peter Prieto and his firm, Podhurst Orseck, for a complex commercial dispute involving a former business partner. There is no question about Mr. Prieto's deep expertise; his 40 years of practice and his repeated recognition as 'Lawyer of the Year' in Corporate Compliance were major factors in our decision. His strategic understanding of the intersection between commercial litigation and compliance issues was evident from our initial consultations. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While the legal work itself was handled competently, we often experienced significant delays in receiving updates. Responses to emails could take several days, and at times, we felt we had to proactively follow up to get clarity on next steps. For a client navigating a high-stakes situation, this lack of consistent communication added unnecessary stress. The outcome of our matter was ultimately satisfactory, which speaks to his skill. Yet, for the premium associated with a lawyer of his caliber and firm's reputation in Coral Gables, we expected a more responsive and client-centered communication protocol. He is undoubtedly a brilliant legal mind, but the administrative and client-relation aspects of our engagement felt merely adequate.
