Competent and experienced, but communication could be improved

I engaged Paul Tushinski at Dutton Brock LLP for a complex slip-and-fall case that involved navigating both personal injury and insurance coverage issues. His credentials are impressive, and his 19 years of experience, along with his recognition in Best Lawyers for Personal Injury Litigation, were major factors in my decision. Paul’s strategic understanding of the insurance law side of things was evident and undoubtedly valuable. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal outcome was ultimately satisfactory, the process felt somewhat distant. Communication was not as proactive as I had hoped; updates were often prompted by my inquiries, and there were noticeable delays in receiving responses from his office. For a straightforward matter, this might be fine, but during a stressful injury claim, more consistent client contact is expected. He is clearly a knowledgeable attorney, as his Lawyer of the Year award suggests, but the client service aspect felt merely adequate. I would describe him as a very capable legal technician, though the overall experience didn't fully match the high level of expertise indicated by his profile and recognitions.
