I engaged Mitchell Bloom and his team at Goodwin to assist my early-stage biotech company with a Series B financing round. There is no question about his deep expertise in venture capital and life sciences law, which is clearly reflected in his long-standing recognition in the field. His strategic advice on the term sheet and deal structure was sound and leveraged his 36 years of experience, particularly his understanding of what institutional investors in Boston are looking for. However, the experience was not seamless. While Mr. Bloom himself was insightful in our meetings, much of the day-to-day communication and document drafting was handled by junior associates, with sometimes slow turnaround. There were periods where we had to follow up multiple times for updates, which created some anxiety during a time-sensitive process. For the premium rate, I expected more consistent, senior-level accessibility. He is undoubtedly a capable and knowledgeable attorney, but the service delivery felt more transactional than partnership-oriented for our needs.
