Competent on the law, but communication could be more consistent

I retained Michael Vogelsang after being wrongfully terminated from my position at a federal contractor, a situation I believed involved whistleblower retaliation. With his 17 years of experience and recognition in employment law for individuals, I felt confident in his technical expertise. His background at The Employment Law Group was evident; he had a strong grasp of the legal landscape and provided a clear initial strategy. The work product on my case was solid, and he was certainly knowledgeable about the nuances of D.C. employment law. However, my experience was mixed. While he was responsive during critical phases, there were periods where communication lagged significantly. Updates sometimes felt like they had to be pulled rather than proactively offered, and wait times for email replies could stretch longer than expected. For a case that was personally stressful, this created additional anxiety. The outcome of my matter was ultimately a fair settlement, which I attribute to his legal acumen. He is a capable attorney who knows this area of law, as his awards suggest. Yet, the overall client experience felt transactional at times. I would describe his service as professionally adequate—you get a skilled lawyer who will handle the legalities, but don't expect a highly communicative or hand-holding approach throughout the entire process.
