Competent but communication could be more consistent

I hired Michael Rose to assist with a small business partnership dispute that had escalated to the point of needing formal mediation. As a lifelong Alaskan who built his own practice here, he demonstrated a solid understanding of the local business landscape and the practical realities of operating in a place like Anchorage. His background in competitive speech and debate was evident during our mediation sessions; he was articulate and presented our position with clear, logical precision. The outcome was fair and resolved the immediate conflict. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. There were periods where responses to emails took several days, and while he explained the legal steps, I sometimes felt I was just being moved along a conveyor belt rather than being a fully-informed partner in the strategy. For straightforward general practice matters, his local expertise and analytical skills are certainly adequate. You get a competent attorney who knows the system. Just be prepared to manage your own expectations regarding proactive communication and the personal touch throughout the process.
