Competent corporate guidance, but communication could improve

I engaged Michael Ginevsky at DS Lawyers Canada LLP for assistance with the formation and shareholder agreement for a new tech startup I was launching. Given his recognition in Corporate Law by Best Lawyers, I had confidence in his technical expertise, which was generally borne out. The final documents were thorough and addressed the key issues we needed for our initial capital raise. His background, including his education at the University of Alberta and his practice in Calgary, provided a solid foundation for understanding cross-border considerations between Canada and our U.S. operations in Charlotte. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While the legal work itself was sound, there were noticeable delays in receiving draft revisions, and at times, I had to follow up multiple times for updates. His explanations of certain complex clauses were clear when we spoke, but getting those scheduled calls required persistence. For straightforward corporate structuring, he is certainly capable, and the firm's resources are evident. My expectations for a seamless, highly responsive client experience, however, were not fully met. The outcome was satisfactory, but the process felt more cumbersome than anticipated for a recognized practitioner.
