Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I hired Michael Holden at Romanucci & Blandin to handle a complex construction site injury case. His 17 years of experience and recognition in personal injury litigation were immediately apparent. He demonstrated a strong grasp of the technical aspects of the case, which involved a faulty piece of equipment, drawing on his noted background in product liability. The initial strategy was sound, and he was clearly respected within the firm. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While Michael is undoubtedly a skilled attorney, communication was sometimes inconsistent. There were periods where updates were sparse, and responses to emails could take several days, which added to the stress of an already difficult situation. The legal work itself was handled professionally, and we reached a settlement. Yet, the process felt more transactional than I had hoped, with expectations about timelines and my involvement not always clearly managed from the outset. For straightforward legal matters, his expertise from Chicago-Kent is solid, but if you require frequent, proactive communication, you may need to be very direct in setting those expectations.
