Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I hired Matthew Nathanson to handle a complex white-collar criminal investigation I was facing. His background in criminal defense was immediately apparent; he was clearly knowledgeable and his recognition in tax law was particularly relevant to the financial aspects of my case. He provided a solid defense strategy and the outcome was ultimately acceptable. However, my experience was mixed. While his legal acumen is strong, I often found communication to be lacking. Responses to emails were sometimes delayed by several days, and there were periods where I felt out of the loop on procedural developments. Setting expectations around timelines and costs upfront could have been clearer. For straightforward legal matters, his expertise is undeniable, but for clients who require frequent updates and proactive communication, there is room for improvement. He is a capable attorney who knows the law, but the client service aspect felt just adequate.
